To celebrate the grand reopening of Tommy Bahama Home at Fashion Island in Newport Beach, we’ve been bringing art, design and creativity into our newly expanded showroom with a special series of Sunday events.

Our Artist in Residence Series invites guests to experience the inspiration behind the home, meet talented artists and design experts, and explore craftsmanship in a setting where furniture, art, textiles and interior design come together.

Each Sunday from 1–4 PM, our Newport Beach showroom has welcomed a new creative perspective, from mixed-media artwork inspired by the Pacific to sculptural works formed from coral and shell and an upcoming custom luxury bedding experience.

Carolyn Johnson | August 9

Our Artist in Residence Series began on August 9 with California artist Carolyn Johnson, whose work is deeply influenced by the ocean and Southern California coastline.

In 2013, Carolyn transformed her passion for art into a full-time career. Inspired by the vastness and tranquility of the ocean during her daily drives along the coast, she developed a signature style incorporating resin marbling, Softcarving and mixed media.

A defining moment in her creative journey came when she transformed a damaged surfboard into a work of art, bringing together sustainability, craftsmanship and the natural beauty that continues to inspire her work.

Guests at our Fashion Island showroom had the opportunity to meet Carolyn, view a selection of her pieces and experience her work alongside the newly redesigned Tommy Bahama Home spaces.

Rob Martinsen | August 16

On August 16, we welcomed Rob Martinsen, an artist whose lifelong relationship with the ocean takes form through extraordinary one-of-a-kind coral and shell sculptures.

Rob grew up in a family of oyster farmers in Montauk, Long Island, before earning a degree in Marine Biology and eventually making his way from the East Coast to a dive boat in California.

Today, he transforms coral and shell into intricate sculptural works sought after by private collectors and museums. His pieces have been exhibited throughout the United States and Europe, with each reflecting the organic forms, textures and character of the sea.

During his Artist in Residence event, guests were able to see Rob's distinctive work in person while exploring the refreshed Tommy Bahama Home Newport Beach showroom.

Katherine Nicholson of Peacock Alley | August 23, 1–4 PM

The celebration continues this Sunday, August 23, with a special Custom Bedding Event featuring Katherine Nicholson of Peacock Alley.

Guests are invited to meet Katherine and discover the possibilities of creating a beautifully layered, personalized bedroom with luxury bedding and bath linens. Explore the latest Peacock Alley styles, fabrics and colors, learn more about custom bedding, and discover how individual pieces can be combined to create a custom ensemble for your home.

The event offers another way to experience our expanded Fashion Island Design Center and the personalized approach to home design available at Tommy Bahama Home Newport Beach.

Attendees will also be entered into a raffle to win a $300 set of custom beach towels.
